IKEA Components grew from the need within IKEA of lowering the costs at right quality of different components IKEA suppliers were using. In the beginning it was called “Modul Service”.
IKEA Components first started out as a company called “Modul Service” in the year 1986. By then IKEA had been sourcing home furnishing products all over the world for some years, in order to find cost benefits. Since then, a question has been how IKEA can reduce costs even more? When making a cost breakdown it shows that more than half of the added value does not come from the furniture supplier itself, instead from the different sub suppliers. IKEA Components looks into how to become the supplier of the supplier, in order to lower the costs at an excellent performance for quality, availability, health and secured IWAY. For this Modul Services was started as a separate company in Älmhult, Sweden. It was in the year 2007 Modul Service different companies around the world was renamed to IKEA Components.
